The advisory had applied to City of Weston water customers and customers of Public Water Supply Districts No. 3 and No. 7.

It was issued after one of the city’s water wells unexpectedly went offline, causing the reservoir level to fall critically low. Once the problem was identified, crews switched to another well and began refilling the reservoir.

The city previously reported that the alarm associated with the affected well also failed. The well, pump and alarm system were being inspected to determine what happened.

Because the water system experienced low pressure, the Department of Natural Resources required the city to issue a boil-water advisory as a precaution.

Initial tests conducted locally indicated the water was safe, but additional samples were sent to Jefferson City for confirmation. The advisory remained in effect until the state testing was completed.

While the advisory was in effect, residents were encouraged to boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food.

City Clerk Sherry Mers said the incident demonstrated why residents should keep their phone numbers updated with City Hall.

“You can call us with it or come in,” Mers said. “It’s as simple as giving us a slip of paper with your name and phone number on it.”
