West Platte R-II School District ended the 2025-26 fiscal year with $15.2 million in combined fund balances for its general and special revenue funds, according to the district’s annual audit.
The audit listed $13.1 million in expenditures for those funds and a reserve ratio of 115.40%. The ratio compares year-end fund balances with annual expenditures. In practical terms, the balances were about 1.15 times the funds’ expenditures for the year.
The ratio was 116.03% in 2024-25. The audit’s five-year trend table shows combined fund balances rising from $12 million in 2022 to about $15.2 million in 2026.
The $15.2 million is not all unassigned. The audit lists $3.43 million in the special revenue fund as assigned for teacher salaries and $77,050 in the general fund as assigned for student activities. It lists about $11.66 million in the general fund as unassigned.
Auditor Brad Steele told the Board of Education on Oct. 21 that the district received a clean audit opinion. Auditors found no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses in internal controls. The board voted 5-0 to accept the audit.
In a separate budget update, Superintendent Brock Dover said the district’s monthly diesel bill for buses was about $7,700, compared with roughly $3,600 to $3,800 a year earlier. He also said some vendors have begun adding fuel surcharges.
Dover said capital project spending had reached 72% of the budget because playground and roofing work was completed early in the year. He said state revenue was generally tracking close to budget projections at that point.
