Gary Kremer, retired executive director of the State Historical Society of Missouri, will speak at the Weston Historical Museum’s annual dinner and membership meeting Sunday, Nov. 8. His talk, “Fifty Years of Writing Black History: A Reminiscence,” will be at the Timber Barn at Weston Red Barn Farm, just outside Weston.
Kremer led the State Historical Society from 2004 to 2025. During his tenure, he reorganized the society and helped lead the campaign to create its new headquarters, the Center for Missouri Studies in Columbia. Before that, he served as Missouri’s state archivist from 1987 to 1991 and taught history at Lincoln University in Jefferson City and William Woods University in Fulton.
He has written, co-authored and co-edited 12 books on Missouri history, including the pioneering study “Missouri’s Black Heritage,” first published in 1980. The book’s third edition was released in 2026.
