An Iatan man remains in custody facing three felony charges stemming from allegations that he sexually abused a minor multiple times over a period of several years. 

John Dorsey Parsons is charged in Platte County Circuit Court with three counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy involving a child younger than 12. Parsons has pleaded not guilty. 

According to a probable cause statement provided to The Weston Chronicle by the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of child sexual abuse Jan. 1. 

The probable cause statement says the juvenile later participated in a forensic interview and alleged Parsons had sexually abused the child multiple times over several years. 

The Chronicle is withholding information about the juvenile’s identity, gender and family relationships. 

Detectives located Parsons outside his residence Jan. 15 and took him into custody without incident, according to the probable cause statement. Investigators advised Parsons of his Miranda rights, and he agreed to speak with them. 

The detective reported that Parsons admitted during the interview to multiple sexual acts involving the child while denying portions of the allegations.

Parsons remains in Platte County custody.

At an Aug. 26 proceeding, Parsons did not personally appear. His attorney appeared on his behalf and requested a continuance, according to the court docket. Parsons’ appearance was waived by his attorney because of delays involving the appearance of in-custody defendants.

The case was continued to 9 a.m. Oct. 7 for another docket call. An Aug. 28 docket entry confirms Parsons remains in custody.

The Platte County Prosecutor’s Office told The Chronicle that bond is determined by the judge and said prosecutors believe the current amount is appropriate “given the nature of the charges and our commitment to public safety.”

The charges remain pending. Parsons is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
