The storms had passed when Crossroads Baptist Chapel met for worship Sunday morning.

The adult Bible study, “God Speaks Through His Holy Spirit,” focused on 1 Corinthians 2:6-16. The lesson explained how the Holy Spirit opens believers’ understanding of the Bible and guides them as they grow in their faith.

Pastor Mark Henkel was unable to attend because of a death in his family. The congregation welcomed Brother Tim Waters to deliver the morning message.

Waters’ sermon, “The Heavenly Truth,” drew from John 3. In today’s world, it can sometimes be difficult to know what truth is. In the passage, Nicodemus, a Jewish leader, acknowledged that Jesus must be a teacher sent by God because of the miracles he performed.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again to see the kingdom of God. When Nicodemus questioned how that could happen, Jesus explained that a person must experience both physical and spiritual birth. Spiritual birth comes through seeking God’s forgiveness, allowing the Spirit of God to change a person’s heart and lead that person to follow and serve him.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God’s love made eternal life possible for those who trust in him.
