Don Kerns, 87, Dekalb, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

He was born November 18, 1938 to R.O. and Esther Kerns in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Don proudly served in the United States Air Force.

On May 9, 1981, Don married Kathleen M. Schreck, and together they shared a life filled with companionship, travel, and many meaningful memories. He especially enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife, and those journeys reflected the joy he found in exploring new places while sharing them with someone he loved.

He was a proud graduate of Missouri S&T, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering and built the foundation for a career that reflected both his technical skill and his practical approach to solving problems. His professional life included work that earned him recognition from the governor of Missouri for his plan to clean up missile silos, an honor that spoke to the value of his ideas and the respect he earned through his expertise. He was also a registered geologist in the state of Missouri, a distinction that reflected his knowledge, discipline, and commitment to his field.

In his younger years, Don was an entrepreneur and hands-on businessman who owned a service station and auto repair business.

He enjoyed drag racing and found great enjoyment in the energy and competition of the sport. He was also a motocross promoter in Agency, Missouri, where he supported and encouraged the racing community.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; siblings, Donna Riddick and Curtis Kerns; numerous nieces and nephews.
