The West Platte High School softball team followed a 10-0 victory over Mid-Buchanan with a second-place finish at the Benton tournament Saturday.

The Blue Jays went 2-1 in the tournament, defeating Benton 11-0 and North Platte 12-2 before falling to Richmond 5-4 in the championship game.

Two days earlier, Vaida Vasques collected three hits and Shiloh Doran pitched six scoreless innings to lead West Platte past Mid-Buchanan at Weston Bend State Park’s softball field.

West Platte took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a Mid-Buchanan error and a single by Doran. The Blue Jays added three runs in the second behind an RBI double from Maddie Cline, an RBI single from Vasques and a sacrifice fly by Brook Allison.

Vasques finished 3-for-4 with a double, two singles and two stolen bases. Allison led the Blue Jays with four RBIs, while Doran and Aubreal Vincent also recorded multiple hits.

Doran allowed four hits, struck out four and did not issue a walk during the six-inning shutout. West Platte finished with 11 hits.
