The Platte County Commission today announced the rollout of the Homestead Property Tax Credit following strong voter approval of the measure on April 7, 2026.

Voters approved the proposal by a margin of 79.4% Yes to 20.6% No. The measure requires Platte County to grant a homestead property tax credit to eligible taxpayers pursuant to Section 137.1055 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri.

Platte County is designated as a five percent (5%) county under the statute whereby the real property tax liability on an eligible taxpayer’s homestead may be increased by no more than five percent per year or the percent increase in the Consumer Price Index as published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whichever is greater.

Who Qualifies?

An “eligible taxpayer” is a Platte County resident who is the owner of record of a homestead (or holds a legal or equitable interest evidenced by a written instrument) and is liable for real property taxes on that homestead. A “homestead” is real property actually occupied by the eligible taxpayer as their primary residence, including all property within the parcel. Taxpayers may claim only one primary residence.

For tax year 2026, no applications are required. County staff made an initial determination of eligible taxpayers and homesteads using available data, including mailing and property addresses, parcel classification, owner type (including LLC and corporate ownership), short-term rental status, Senior Tax Credit status, and other relevant information.

How to Check Enrollment?

The full list of parcels determined to be eligible has been compiled and mapped with an address search function. Residents can review the determination and learn more by visiting: www.co.platte.mo.us/homestead.

Appeals and Voluntary Withdrawal

Any taxpayer may appeal the determination of their eligibility directly to the Platte County Commission. Appeals must be submitted online and received before September 11, 2026.

Taxpayers may also voluntarily withdraw their homestead from eligibility by submitting written, signed notice to the Platte County Commission.  Residents who were automatically enrolled in the program but would like to be excluded can email their parcel ID number, name, and address to homestead@co.platte.mo.us.

How the Credit Works

Platte County will apply the credit when calculating the eligible taxpayer’s property tax liability for the tax year. The amount of the credit will be noted on the county collector’s statement of tax due.
