The Weston Board of Aldermen unanimously agreed Aug. 10 to contribute $2,644.21 toward an interpretive sign near the Weston Black Ancestors Awareness Campaign mural.

The contribution represents half of the current $5,288.42 cost for producing and installing the sign. The city’s portion will come from its tourism budget.

The proposed sign will identify the people depicted in the mural, the artist and project sponsors.

Aldermen also approved advertising for bids to construct a concrete slab serving the planned shuttle pickup and drop-off area near the mural.

The expanded concrete area would accommodate benches and provide space for the interpretive sign.

The bid notice will run in The Weston Chronicle for two consecutive weeks. Bids are due at City Hall by 3 p.m. Aug. 21.
