West Platte’s passing game produced two long touchdown passes, but four interceptions helped Lawson secure a 34-20 win during the Blue Jays’ homecoming game Oct. 9.
The four interceptions were a season high, coach Taylor Callagher said.
Quarterback Mark Sanders completed 4 of 13 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Blaze Masoner caught three passes for 110 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Cuin Vincent added a 31-yard touchdown catch late in the game.

Masoner also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Callagher said it was Masoner’s best kickoff return of the season and West Platte’s first kickoff return touchdown this year. The team does not have records from before 2020, Callagher said, so it could not verify whether the return set a school record.
Brady McMillan rushed 11 times for 49 yards and recorded nine tackles, tied for second most on the team. Sanders led West Platte with 85 rushing yards.
Lawson controlled the ground game, rushing 60 times for 377 yards and five touchdowns. The Cardinals outgained West Platte 383-275, recorded 20 first downs to the Blue Jays’ nine and held the ball for 27 minutes, 27 seconds.
During the homecoming festivities, Masoner was named king and Brooke Allison was named queen.
